Warehousing Games

Slotting is assigning items to storage locations, and routing is finding a travel path through the warehouse. Together they determine how many metres order pickers travel each day and how high up the racking they have to go. In these two games you solve those problems yourself, and afterwards you see how close you are to the optimal solution.

With a handful of pallets or picks, gut feeling still gets you a long way. In a real warehouse you are dealing with thousands of items and order lines a day, and order patterns keep changing. That is what Metrica is for: a warehouse optimization system that analyses your WMS data and works out which improvements are possible.

Order picker Carla on a high-reach truck

Rack & Stack

Carla picks orders with a high-reach truck. Each pallet shows how many picks she has to make. You decide where the pallets go in the racking. The less Carla’s truck has to lift, the better your score.

The problem behind it is called slotting.
